The death occurred of Mahinda Athulathmudali, one of the most outstanding off-spin bowlers, Sri Lanka have produced.

Athulathmudali, who played in the Nalanda First XI from 1957-1959, was rated one of the best bowlers in the schools at that time.

Later, he played for NCC, Bloomfield, Colts CC and Adstrians Cricket Club. Athulathmudali served the Sri Lanka Air Force and migrated to Canada and played cricket in Canada as an all-rounder.

He was a founder member of the Old Nalandians Sport Club (ONSC), which was inaugurated in 1965.

At the time of his death, he was a Vice-Patron of the ONSC. Late Athulathmudali leaves behind his wife Yolande, son and daughter.
